Presentations

Presentation day

The final schedule for the presentation days (June 1, 2, and 4), and all theses, will be shared with all students, examiners, and supervisors in the Slack channel no later than Friday of week 22. They will also be available via the Moodle course room

When you are finished with your thesis project you will do an oral presentation. You will also be the opponent of another student’s thesis project, and another student will act as the opponent of your project.

You have 8 minutes to present your thesis project. This is rather a short time, so you cannot go into too much detail. A good outline for the presentation is:

  • Short background description

  • Research problem and motivation

  • Research questions and method

  • Implementation, or description of a study

  • Results and analysis

  • Knowledge contribution and ethical considerations

  • Conclusions

You can also use the peer-review instructions to help you set up your opposition. Please use your LNU-account to access the file.

Try to be as close to 8 minutes as possible. It is strongly recommended that you practice on your presentation to see how long it actually takes. Moreover, invite some friends to listen, they can give you valuable feedback! If you need, write short notes, like 'TV-presenter cards', so you remember what to say. It can help you stay on track so you don’t wander off and spend time talking about things you didn’t plan.

You are required to use slides in your presentation, preferably using Powerpoint, Keynote, or online tools such as Prezi or Google Presentations, etc. Avoid having too much text on each slide, and use figures and pictures to make it easier for the audience to understand what you are talking about.

You are allowed to have your presentation in Swedish, but English is preferred since there are people in the audience that don´t speak Swedish.

Tips! Listen to Oral Presentations - how can we help you?

Opposition and Questions

After your presentation, the opponent has 5 minutes to give comments and feedback on and ask questions about your thesis project. When the opponent is finished the examiner and the audience will also have 5 minutes to ask additional questions.

Try to give as good answers as possible to the questions. If you don’t know how to answer, it is okay to say that you don’t know or haven’t thought about it.
