There are many ways that you can find ideas for the thesis.
Follow an interest
Choosing something that personally interests you is a good starting point. Perhaps you already know a bit more about this area; otherwise, it is a good way to motivate yourself.
- Find an area, or problem that you could dive into
- Work with technologies, or tools
- Research a societal tech phenomenon
- Go deeper into courses that you liked
Turn your attention inwards, and backwards — what do you want to do, and what has sparked your interest in the past?
Preparing for a job
Working on something that strengthens your employability, either now, or in the long term. Building a skills profile that aligns with the work you want to do.

Check what is in demand in job postings and in skills profiles on LinkedIn.
Contribute to research
Joining ongoing research can lead to collaborations, exciting and in-depth questions, and a sense of belonging to a larger context.
Look up which active research areas/subjects exist nearby.
Bleeding edge
Stand out by gaining experience, or perhaps specialized knowledge in a new, fresh, cutting-edge, and exciting area, technology, or phenomenon.
Read Wired and thenextweb.com, stateofjs.com, and other trend-spotting sources. New programming languages, frameworks, technologies, and ways of working.
Explore a new phenomenon or application environment.
Do good
Doing something that makes a difference for society now, or in the future. Doing something meaningful provides extra motivation and drive. Contribute to making the world a little better — locally or globally.
Be observant in everyday life to identify what could make a real difference. Collaborate with Amnesty, Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, UNHCR, WWF, Save the Children, Sida, Bris, or another important organization.
Try to solve an important problem in the world.
Talk to people
Ask a teacher, or researcher experienced in an area that you are interested in if they have a topic for you.
Assignment IRL
Doing something for real — a live assignment, real conditions, real users/customers. Establish future relationships.
